Karachi: The Hub Dam on Thursday (Aug 27) was filled to its maximum capacity for the first time since 2007, owing to the recent influx of torrential rains in Balochistan and Sindh, according to news sources.

The rainwater stored in the Hub Dam can now ensure a smooth supply of drinking water to the metropolis of Karachi for the next three years. The water level in the dam has increased up to 340 ft – and has begun to outflow from the spillways into the sea from near Mubarak Village.
In the last three days, the catchment area of Hub Dam – which stretches up to the mountain range in Balochistan – has risen up to more than 9 feet.

As per the officials of Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), more rainwater relays from the catchment area are reaching up to the dam. Officials of the Hub Dam Management Agency, WAPDA and irrigation department have been present on site in case of any emergency situation. The settlements below the dam have also been evacuated as a safety measure. Moreover, it is reported that over 30 feet of water have been filled into the dam after the recent rains.
