TMA officer Hamid Mansoor informed the media that the market’s licence had been cancelled for the first time back in 2018. One of the reasons cited for the closure of the market was its location, which is only eight kilometres away from the highway. The owner had filed for a stay order on the decision till September 2019, and was asked by TMA officials to fulfil the requirements to remove the closure order within one month. However, he was unable to do so and thus was asked to vacate the premises as soon as possible.

The official expressed grave concerns over the efforts of third parties, who he claimed have been trying to undermine the government’s efforts by supporting the owner of the fruit and vegetable market. He was referring to the threat to the government’s initiative of opening markets within the same locality, and added that he was determined to prevent their closure at all costs.
