Lahore: Ministry of Water Resources Secretary Muhammad Ashraf has requested the Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources for timely release of funds allocated for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in order to expedite the development of the Dasu Dam project, a news source reported.

He stated that the timely release of funds was necessary to complete the projects within their assigned deadlines. He said the authorities concerned required the availability of funds for completing the Dasu project; which is expected to be completed by February 2025.
Meanwhile, the project director has also stressed on the timely construction of the Diamer Bhasha Dam project; stating that it would increase the life of Tarbela Dam by 30 years. He added that it was also important for preventing the silting of run on the river projects like Dasu.

The committee also received a briefing on the construction of five small dams in Balochistan, including Zama Khulgi, Sharan, Baratkhel Cheena, Kum Khurasan, and Urgus dams. It announced its decision to write a letter to the Balochistan government and ordered the federal ministry to do the same in order to quicken the process of sending PC-I of these projects for approval to the federal government.
