Karachi: The Sindh government on Wednesday (October 27) shared a timeline for bringing 250 buses to Karachi, under the Sindh Intra District Peoples Bus Service project, according to news sources.

Sindh Transport Minister Syed Awais Qadir Shah disclosed that an agreement has been signed with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) – a national defence organisation – to provide the first shipment of 50 buses by the end of January 2022. He hoped that people will have access to public transport services under Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) by February 2022.
As per the details, NRTC will be responsible for operations, maintenance, and supply of buses and construction, maintenance, and operation of bus stations and depots for the project. In the first phase of the project, 50 buses will operate on the roads of Karachi. It was disclosed that the buses will operate on a 33-kilometre route from Nagan Chowrangi to Singer Chowrangi and a 29.5-kilometre route from Model Colony to Tower.
In the next phase, the remaining 200 buses will operate from Karachi to Larkana. Sharing more details about the project, it was mentioned that the buses will run on six different routes, covering an area of 10.3-kilometre.

Moreover, Sindh Transport Minister Shah stated the government is focusing on providing efficient, safe, and comfortable transportation in major cities in Sindh. SMTA has planned an integrated bus operations system to cater to the public transport demand in major cities including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Karachi.
