Lahore: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has shared the timeline for the completion of a diversion system in the Dasu Hydropower Project, a news source reported on January 4.

As per the details, the diversion system will be completed by May this year and the electricity generation is expected to start by the end of 2026. WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani visited the Dasu Hydropower Power project site to review the construction work. The chairman was briefed that the construction work is being carried out on 12 different sites simultaneously.
The news source mentioned that the WAPDA is constructing Stage-I with an installed generation capacity of 2,160-megawatt and an annual energy generation of 12 billion units of environmentally friendly and low-cost electricity. Stage-II is expected to provide 9 billion units to the national grid. Once both stages are completed, the annual energy generation will be the highest in the country with 21 billion units.

Moreover, the authority is spending PKR 17.34 billion on schemes related to resettlement, social development, and environmental management in the area. It was shared that 3,722 jobs were generated, which included 1,945 for locals. The chairman visited different sites of the project including the project colony and diversion tunnels.
