Islamabad: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is working to award operational permits to three new domestic airlines in a bid to revive the country’s airline industry, as per a news report published on March 3.

To this effect, it stated that this initiativewill offer a ‘breather’ to the local tourism and travel business – which is adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It further said that two of these airline startups have successfully completed the requisite administrative processes and that the third is being scrutinized. If these airlines prove to be successful in the first year of their launch, they might also be permitted to operate international services.

As per a CAA spokesperson, these new airlines are Q-Airlines, Fly Jinnah and Jet Green and they have applied for Regular Public Transport (RPT) licenses – needed for running domestic flight operations. The spokesperson also said that aside from the authority, multiple public institutions are involved in the process, so it may take some time.
