Lahore: Punjab government’s Building Department has decided to impose third-party validation and e-tendering regulations for development project contracts, a news source reported. The decision was taken in a meeting of secretaries of the agency’s various sections.
The meeting was attended by Secretary C&W Shahryar Sultan, Secretary Public Health, Secretary Irrigation Syed Ali Murtaza, and Secretary Municipal Administration Capt (r) Saif Anjum. The meeting reviewed the progress of the development projects, and took note of the improvements that could be made.
Several proposals were presented to minimize the influence of contractors and corruption in the tendering process. It was decided that the standards adopted by the firms would be checked, while all development contracts would be registered under the e-tendering system – following third-party approval.
Previously, Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has also called for an overhaul of the present tendering and contract awarding system. He had directed relevant officials to prepare recommendations for bringing wide-spread changes in the present contract awarding mechanism.
