Islamabad: The government has decided to introduce a Third Party Inspection (TPI) system for development projects, amounting to PKR 10 billion or above, to ensure the quality and execution of the projects, according to a news report published on April 22.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, during the Metro Bus Project meeting, stated that the TPI system must be established to improve projects and procurement. It was mentioned that the TPI will be carried by the planning commission. The following are the criteria for the selection of the projects:
- Infrastructure projects of PKR 10 billion and above and for social and other sectors projects worth PKR 1 billion and above
- Coverage of TPI will be for regions and sectors
- Projects having physical progress of 40% to 80%

As per the details shared by the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, the TPI report will share with executing agencies/ divisions/ ministries for compliance and remedial action. It was disclosed that the ministries/ executing agencies/ divisions will forward the list of the projects for TPI according to the criteria along with the one-page brief update of each project (stating salient features, progress updates, issues, and way forward) by April 30.
