Ashiana Housing Project in other cities
Recently, Chief Minister of Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved the initiation of Aashiyana Housing Project in other cities of Punjab. The idea of having ones own house at a good location, equipped with all amenities and that too when you earn less than twenty thousand rupees a month, sounds too good to be true (we hope it is). The success of this project might set new benchmark for Pakistan Real Estate sector. If Aashiyana Housing Project is strictly meant to accommodate the poor then the Punjab Government has to ensure that no loopholes are left for the swindlers to take advantage. Let’s just hope that this project will eventually deliver what it has promised, instead of ending up in disarray like some of the previous projects.
Kalma Chowk Flyover Construction Resumed:
The environment concerns of Lahore Conservation Society against the construction of Kalma Chowk Flyover have been ruled-out in favor of Punjab Government. The petitioners had concerns that this flyover would increase noise pollution and affect the residents of adjoining area. Since the beneficiaries of this project out number the affectees and the trees can of course be planted again, the division bench of Lahore High Court allowed the authorities to resume the construction. There are dozens of real environment issue which not only affect thousands of living beings in Lahore but are also deteriorating its iconic glory. May be a little focus on the real issue would actually help conserve the ancient walled city of Lahore.
Reconstruction of flood struck highways
Flood has passed, destroying thousands of houses and infrastructure worth of billions of dollar. Now it is time to rebuild. National Highway Authority is discussing several options to reconstruct the roads that connected Northern and Southern parts of the country with other cities. The stress is on recovering the flood struck road tracks and thus saving the money. China is financing 85% of the $281.973 million required for the construction of tunnels, bridges and roads on Korakarm Highway. Japan International Cooperation Agency is helping NHA develop its research centre. It is important that instead of focusing entirely on reducing the expenses, the stress should rather be on constructing something that would last for longer and improve the worth of Pakistan property and infrastructure.
