Mithi: A number of villagers from Varvai, which falls within Thar Coalfield’s Block-1, will receive PKR 4.2 million as compensation for vacating their properties, according to a news report. As per the publication, this agreement was finalized after meetings between the villagers and three mining firms, and also includes a provision to give jobs to two members of each household in the area.

Resultantly, the villagers will vacate their lands within three months. This was after numerous meetings between representatives of the firms operating in Block-1 of Thar Coalfields and the village’s representatives, namely Suhrab Rahimoon and Waryam Lunjo.

According to statements by the villagers, all 380 families residing in Varvai agreed to these conditions, and were satisfied with the compensation package — which also includes facilities for their new homes, apart from the aforementioned cash payment and employment opportunity. They will also be allowed to carry away the debris of their homes and other buildings in the area, while the firms have agreed to not construct any structures on their ancestral graveyard.
