Karachi: The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the Thar coal power plant will start operating by December this year, according to a news report. While presenting the provincial budget for 2018-2019 on 10th May 2018, the minister said that Thar Block-II has been progressing ahead of its timelines for both mining and construction levels.
While giving details of the project, he said that the first seam of Thar coal would be available for utilisation by June, and that the pre-commissioning tests of the power plant would be conducted in July.
This USD 2 billion, 660 megawatt Thar Coal project is a part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and a part of the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative.
The Sindh government has also made allocations for renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Over 53,600 acres of land have been allocated for the development and production of wind and solar energy, while 42,000 acres have been reserved for new projects in the renewable energy segment.
