Karachi: The tariff for Thar coal is expected to go down as the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) decides to expand its production, according to a news report. The present production is at 3.8 million tonnes per annum, which is likely to increase to 7.6 million tonnes. The tariff for this will decrease from USD 60 per ton to USD 46 per ton.
In an official statement released, the SECMC has revealed that with the subsequent expansion in production, the tariff will further decrease, and will be applicable to all units in block-II of Thar coal mine. Hence, the cost of coal will decrease to USD 4.6 per million British thermal units (mmbtu). This would be significantly lower than the imported cost of USD 4.8 mmbtu and help with power generation in the country.
