Karachi: Two private companies, Thar Energy Ltd (TEL) and Thal Nova Power Thar Ltd (TNPTL), have expressed their interest to establish coal-based power plants in Thar, a news source reported.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently made announcements to this effect during a meeting. He said that TNPTL is finalising a financing agreement with the provincial government.
He directed the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) to expand its mining work in the first phase of the Thar Coal power project in a bid to accommodate the two private companies.
He informed the meeting that the Hub Power Company (HUBCO) is setting up two power plants in collaboration with TEL and TNPTL at the Thar Coal project site.
HUBCO recently requested the provincial government to implement the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) scheme for providing water supply to the power plants.

Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh said that the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) has been tasked with carrying out a feasibility study for installing the pre-treatment water system.
