Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah on Monday (August 1) asked the Chinese firm working on the Thar Coal Block-1 project to expedite work on the housing project for the people displaced due to its development, news sources reported.

According to reports, CM Murad urged the company to provide all municipal amenities to those relocated or internally displaced due to the project. He made the remarks at a meeting with a delegation led by Shanghai Electric Group President Liu Ping at CM House.
The meeting was informed that the firm had already paid half of the project’s dues, with the remaining cash to be distributed as the work progresses. According to the delegate, the colonies established for the affected would have all modern municipal facilities, assuring total rehabilitation. CM Murad stated that his administration will also provide the affectees with decent dwellings in a housing colony.

It is worth noting that Thar Coal Block-1 is a 1320-MW coal-fired power plant. This project also includes lignite coal exploration in the area. The coal will be used for export and local power generation, reducing foreign exchange outflows.
