Islamabad: The Thakot Havelian Expressway’s construction work has been completed with only one pending formality: the transfer the road project to its custodians, a news source quoted Project Direct Ashfaq Ahmed Khan as saying. As per the publication, the inauguration of the project has already been delayed (with the original handover scheduled for the last week of February) due to the existing corona pandemic situation.

Work on this 120-kilometre long expressway was completed under two phases, with the 40-kilometre Havelian to Mansehra Section inaugurated last year, however, the inauguration of the 80-kilometre long Mansehra to Thakot Section is still awaited. Also known as Karakoram Highway II (KKH Phase II), the project is being part the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) northern alignment.
The 64-kilometre long Hazara Expressway links Havelian-Thakot Expressway with the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway M-1 at Burhan Interchange.

Thakot-Havelian Expressway has been completed by China Communication Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) – which will formally handover the project to the National Highway Authority (NHA) upon receiving a go ahead from the government.
