Faisalabad: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) on Wednesday announced its decision to establish at least 20 centres of excellence in Punjab in a bid to address the shortage of skilled workforce, a news source reported.

TEVTA Chairman Ali Salman Siddiqui expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with representatives of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI). Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) Chairman Shahnawaz Badar was also present at the session.
The TEVTA chief stated that several international donors had pledged to provide machinery worth USD 189 million to the proposed centres for skills development. He added that TEVTA intended to ‘transform its entire institutes on the latest apprenticeship model’ following its enactment by the provincial legislature.

Moreover, Siddiqui stated that the proposed skill councils would be designed to address the issues of individuals associated with designated sectors on a priority basis; adding that the German development agency GIZ would collaborate with TEVTA on the training of 10,000 individuals.
