Karachi: The test run for the first-ever electric bus service in Karachi started on Monday (November 7) under the second phase of Peoples Bus Service, according to news published on November 8.

As per the details, the test run was conducted between the Sindh Archives Complex and Sea View. Sindh Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was present for the test run and inspected the facilities of the imported electric buses.
Sindh Transport Minister Memon disclosed that the electric bus service will officially open to the public after the completion of the test drive within 10 days. He went on to say that the routes of the bus service will be decided after the survey. He highlighted that the provincial government is resolving the public transport issues by providing comfortable and modern community facilities to the people.

Moreover, the company working on the electric bus project assured that a solar energy system to charge the buses will be installed and solar energy centres will be set up. The news source mentioned that 50 electric buses have arrived in the city. The minister mentioned that the department is trying to set up a manufacturing plant of electric buses in Karachi.
