Karachi: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has formally requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allocate PKR 100 billion in federal funding for the development of Karachi’s infrastructure.
According to Express News, the governor has sent a letter to the prime minister, highlighting the urgent need for financial assistance to address the city’s longstanding infrastructure challenges. The letter includes a detailed list of proposed development projects submitted by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
Governor Tessori emphasized that Karachi, as Pakistan’s economic hub, requires immediate intervention to improve its basic infrastructure. He urged the federal government to expedite the approval of the grant to ensure timely execution of critical projects.
The request follows an earlier initiative by the governor, who invited Mayor Wahab to compile and submit a formal list of priority development projects. In his letter, Tessori assured the mayor of his commitment to advocating for Karachi’s share of federal funding.
The move comes amid increasing concerns over Karachi’s deteriorating roads, drainage systems, and public services, which have long been neglected despite the city’s vital contribution to the national economy. The response from the federal government is yet to be seen.
