Lahore: The Punjab government is planning to restructure the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), with the objective of promoting culture and tourism, a news source reported. The initiative will undertake the maintenance of buildings and sites of cultural importance and bringing youth into the mainstream with various opportunities.

The Chief Secretary (CS) Punjab Major (rtd) Azam Suleman Khan chaired a meeting and reviewed the issues pertaining to the restructuring of TDCP. Various officers of the Punjab government, including Additional Chief Secretary Shaukat Ali, Provincial Minister for Finance Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, Planning & Development Secretary Imran Sikander Baloch, Finance Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal, and Walled City of Lahore Authority Director General Karim Lashari participated in the meeting.

The participants discussed a proposal to launch a culture and heritage authority to oversee matters relevant to youth affairs, sports, cultural/historical sites, tourism, and the Walled City.
In terms of rehabilitation of historical buildings, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) is already taking up the tasks to revive old structures in Lahore. Taking in consideration the detailed work this body does while rehabilitating old structures, WCLA has also been engaged for restoration projects in other cities of Punjab and KP.
