As per details, this surge contrasts sharply with the 2.407 million returns filed during the same period in 2023, underscoring a strengthened compliance push by the FBR. In its latest data, the FBR detailed that 1.82 million of the returns filed for 2024 showed nil income, meaning no tax was due on these filings. This contrasts with 2023, when 859,929 individuals filed nil returns from the total of 2.407 million. For Tax Year 2023 overall, the FBR received a total of 6.581 million returns.
FBR data also reveals an encouraging trend in taxpayer registration, with 1.161 million registrations since July 2023. Of these, 706,940 were nil-filers. From July 2024 to date, 528,638 new taxpayers have registered, including 363,792 nil-filers. The substantial rise in returns and collection reflects FBR’s focused efforts to streamline tax processes, broaden the tax base, and promote greater compliance among taxpayers.
