Gujranwala: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has said that it has recorded a decline in its revenue collections due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a news source reported. It has further stated that the officials concerned have yet to collect income, withholding and sales tax from 35 local government departments.

To facilitate this measure, it has sought the data of government properties, revenue, and taxes for 35 local government departments. The board has also announced its decision to generate more revenue by implementing higher tax ratio. Additionally, teams have been formed to review withholding tax details for development projects and purchases by these departments.
There are three municipal corporations, 6 district councils, and 26 municipal committees, which have made purchases worth billions of rupees during the past year. They also received revenue under tax heads.

The teams recently commenced with the collection of taxes from these departments but they had halt the process due to the coronavirus spread. Additionally, the local industries have also been closed down so they have not paid taxes either.
