Peshawar: The Tarbela Dam’s 17 power units were working at full capacity, and were producing record 4902 megawatts electricity on Thursday, a news source reported.
After remaining at full capacity for about three weeks, the reservoir began emptying on Thursday, and the water level reached 1549.24 feet. According to the dam officials, due to this decrease in volume, the position of water inflow was 128100 cusecs and outflow was 150,000 cusecs.
This was the highest water storage level the dam had reached this year, and later the auxiliary spillways were opened to discharge extra water into river Indus. The maximum water storage capacity of Tarbela dam is 1550 feet at present water level. As the water had reached 1549.25 feet, the power generation has also approached its full capacity, which is higher than it has ever been for Tarbela Dam.
