Haripur: On 26th February 2018 the first four units of Tarbela Dam’s new extension, 4th Extension Hydropower Project began producing electricity, according to a news report.
The new unit was inaugurated by Wapda Chairman, Lt-Gen (Retd.) Muzammil Hussain, and was attended by various other local and foreign dignitaries. The Wapda Chairman highlighted that the new unit has added 470 MW of electricity to the National Transmission System, whereas the entire project is expected to contribute 1,410 MW to the national grid by the middle of 2018.
While commenting on the overall operations, Wapda Chairman added that the second unit is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of April, while the third and fourth units will be workable by the end of May this year. He further added that the three hydropower projects; 108 MW Golen Gol, 969 MW Neelum Jhelum, and 1410 MW Tarbela Dam’s 4th extension, will all bring about real economic development in the country. The annual benefits of this program are expected to total a sum of PKR 30 billion.
