Islamabad: It has been stated by senior government officials that work on laying the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Pipeline should begin soon to avert any impending power crisis, according to a news report. The work was supposed to begin in May, but could not be started due it being an election year and the government’s tenure ending on May 31, 2018.
The mandate for this project and other oil and gas projects lies with Inter State Gas Systems (ISGS), and its Managing Director Mobin Saulat revealed that the construction of the pipeline had begun in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Initially, this project was to be completed by 2021, but with the alternative plan, it can be completed by 2020. Under this plan, the pipeline would be laid without compressors, and gas flow would start within one-and-a-half year.
