Rawalpindi: The Forest Department has initiated of setting up a National Park attraction at the 1,000 year-old Chinji Jungle located at the junction of Talagang and Chakwal in Rawalpindi Division, a news source reported on October 20. The National Park is being set up on 15,000 acres of land.
In a related development, archeologists have notified the discovery of the remains of prehistoric elephants and other ancient animal species at the Chinji Jungle. These findings will be displayed at a museum currently under construction in the park. According to details, Additional Secretary (Forest Department) Shahid Rasheed Awan is supervising the project.

The National Park development work is expected to finish by the year end, after which Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will perform its inauguration in January 2021.
The forest department has taken special measures to protect and nurture the natural habitat of animal species living in Pakistan. This is in addition to the construction of a mini dam, which will supplement the water related needs of the jungle.
In order to make the National Park attractive for families, the forest department will set up a cafeteria, and provide other facilities including a jogging track, public toilets, parking area, benches and play rides.

Chinji National Park is Pakistan’s only dense forest that features wild olive trees. The department is planting 20,000 saplings of different kinds of plants to increase the natural habitat for birds.
