Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government Shahram Khan Tarkai has directed the concerned departments to take measures to discourage the trend of migration to Peshawar in order to reduce the population load on the city, a news source reported.

In this regard, the minister directed that the rural and suburban areas of Peshawar should be provided with basic facilities to help discourage the migration trend. Furthermore, he also ordered that the master plan and land-use policy for all divisional headquarters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be formed on an immediate basis.

Minister Tarkai shared these views on Thursday (August 29) while presiding over the Urban Policy and Planning Unit meeting. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Secretary Zahir Shah, Urban Economist Riaz Noor, Competitive Industries Project Director Wasif Shinwari and officers representing the Local Government Reforms Unit attended this meeting.

The meeting members were told that the land-use policy and master plans for various district headquarters are under preparation. Furthermore, it was revealed that launch of several projects to improve level and quality of underground water, fix the traffic management plan and upgrade water and sanitation services in various cities is being considered in coordination with foreign agencies.
