Mingora: The residents of Swat have requested the district administration to ensure plantation of trees along both sides of the roads and streams, a news source reported.

People say that deforestation is one of the main causes of scorching temperature, environmental pollution and scarcity of underground water in the district.
Several social activists recently took up the issue and started a campaign of urban plantation. They requested the forest department and district administration to plant trees on both sides of roads and streams.
The local population has also requested the government to launch a plantation campaign in urban Swat including streams and roads to protect the scenic valley from further environmental degradation and pollution.

In response, Deputy Commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam said that the officials concerned would plant indigenous trees along streams and roads after devising a proper plan.
