Islamabad: The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) arranged an event to mark the launch of the Energy Management System (EnMS) in local industries, according to a news source. This programme is part of UNIDO’s flagship project, Sustainable Energy Initiative for Industries, devised to ensure energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in Pakistan.

Under this initiative, energy consulting firms trained by UNIDO will execute EnMS implementations including an energy audit in 50 industrial units from 10 industrial clusters, and enabling the achievement of ISO 50001 based Energy Management Systems. All major industrial regions of Pakistan will be covered in this EnMS programme, i.e, Karachi, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nooriabad, Faisalabad, Hattar (KP), Hub (Balochistan), and others.

The honourable chief guest, Special Assistant to Prime Minister and Chairman Task Force on Energy Reforms Nadeem Babar, appreciated UNIDO’s role in the launch and promotion of renewable energy projects in the industrial sectors of Pakistan.
He vocalised the importance of renewable energy and highlighted the success of revised government measures that resulted in the unprecedented electricity generation in the country. However, he conceded that achieving energy efficiency is an ongoing goal for Pakistan.
