Rawalpindi: The Anti-Corruption Establishment of Rawalpindi has begun a survey of illegal plazas and buildings, a news source reported. The Punjab Government has ordered the agency to submit a report in this regard.
Sources privy to the development said the government wants to regularise all structures and establishments in the garrison city as well as demolish encroachments and recover state land from illegal occupants.
The officials concerned have been tasked to identify plazas and buildings where owners have constructed shops on the basement floor reserved for parking space.
The move would allow civic bodies such as the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to collect fees for approving building plans and impose fines on violators. The owners, on the other hand, would be able to legalise their structures and establishments.
