The council also found that due to haphazard development of these industrial units, their adjoining areas are left exposed to environmental pollution. In addition, property owners here were also found to be involved in evasion of taxes and conversion fee by changing or hiding the nature of their property.

To collect the data of such industrial setups, the District Council has extended building inspectors’ role to its sub-engineers. These engineers are assigned the task to bring businesses spread across the district under the tax net.
In addition, the District Council, based on the survey results, is looking to seal such units operating in the absence of an approved building plan and also file criminal cases against them.
