Karachi: The Supreme Court (SC) has given the Mayor of Karachi a month to clear the drains in the provincial capital, a news source reported. The SC while addressing the Mayor stated that a clean city is the right of every citizen, and the monsoon season is coming up. If the drains are not clean, it will lead to a mess in the city.
The court also instructed that the matter of tenders and roadblocks in uplift schemes be presented before the Water Commission. The court was hearing a petition concerning the provision of clean water in Sindh.
On a question of the court, the Mayor explained that Karachi has a total of 36 drains and work for cleaning them has begun and a comprehensive plan has been created for the purpose. He added that significant progress will be visible within 15 days.
