Mansehra: The Suki Kanari hydropower dam being constructed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is expected to start power generation by the year 2022, a news source reported. The announcement was made by MPA Ahmad Hussain Shah during the water diversion ceremony from the River Kunhar for the project.

The company handed over the development work for the project diverted water from the river to the mountainside in order to build a reservoir. The event was held in Naran at Kaghan valley. This 870-megawatt project is the only energy project being developed in KP under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

KP Minister for Tourism and Culture Atif Khan was positive that Kaghan will now meet the electricity requirements of Pakistan. KP Minister for Local Government Shahram Tarakai and KP Minister for Finance Taimur Jhagra, both were of the view that similar projects were needed to resolve the ongoing energy crisis of the country.
Shah stated that the Hazara Motorway project being constructed under CPEC was reaching completion. He said it is expected that the project will be be made operational by next month and would be great for tourism promotion in the region.
