Lahore: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has decided to ban the usage of plastic bags in the provincial capital, reported a news source. For this purpose, the corporation has sought suggestions from the Environment Protection Department (EPD).

This initiative comes as part of the Clean and Green Campaign. It is expected to start from March 18 onward. In the first phase, the MCL will work to enforce the ban in the city’s major markets and shopping centres.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed presided over a meeting on Tuesday to inquire about the project’s administrative matters. Lahore additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, Education Department CEO, and other important officials, also attended the meeting.

The DC directed the officers from the Education Department to focus on making the plantation drive a success. She directed the Education Department CEO to identify empty spots in the city to plant saplings. The meeting members also agreed to focus on planting saplings at greenbelts, parks and open spaces.

Furthermore, DC Saeed informed that the usage of plastic bags will be gradually abolished in the city. Reportedly, the EPD is yet to share its feedback on this front.
