Quetta: Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) Mayor Dr Kaleemullah said on January 25 that structures built in violation of the building code will be demolished, stated a news source.
The mayor, flanked by Deputy Mayor Younas Baloch, made the announcement during a press conference in the provincial capital. According to Dr Kaleemullah, there are widespread violations of the building code despite multiple reminders and even traders and shopkeepers are involved in the encroachment. Thus, the consequences will be strict and violators will have to see their structures demolished.
Reportedly, a meeting took place earlier between shopkeepers operating in Mutton Market and the mayor, during which they requested their shops be shifted to a new complex in the vicinity with better facilities. Their issue has been forwarded to former Chief Minister Dr Malik Baloch, Commissioner Kambar Dashti, ministers and representatives of the Anjuman-i-Tajiran for further discussion.
Dr Kaleemullah said QMC would sign a written agreement with the shopkeepers to safeguard their interests and the interests of the Anjuman-i-Tajiran.
The abolishment of paid parking in Quetta from February 1 was also announced at the press conference.
