Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has directed the relevant officials to take strict action against the illegal construction activity and encroachment along the riverbanks of tourists spots in the Malakand division, according to a story published in the leading newspaper on June 27.

A meeting was held to review the illegal construction activities on riverbanks in the province, chaired by CM Khan. During the meeting, he asked the officials concerned to form a strategy with a proper implementation plan to prevent such illegal construction activities in the future. He further asked the officials to take necessary steps to get rid of all types of encroachments from the riverbanks in the area of Kalam, Swat and submit the report to him. The minister mentioned that illegal activities will not be tolerated and action should be taken against all involved.

In the meeting, the operational committee was formed, headed by Malakand Commissioner, to identify encroachments and eradicate them to protect the rivers. Moreover, the CM stated that the illegal construction activities damage the natural beauty of rivers and lead to property and human loss during flooding. Talking about dumping garbage into the rivers, he asked the local administration to prevent such practices and implement River Protection Act.
