Islamabad: Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers (PALSP) has requested the government to switch to Daylight Saving Time (DST) by reversing clocks by one hour to improve the performance of the industry and reduce the effects of power shortage, according to news published in the leading newspaper on November 29.

As per the details, the PALSP stated that reversing the clocks will help improve the productivity and performance of the steel industry. The extra hour of daylight will give a boost to the businesses and increase their economic activity. It was also mentioned that back in 2009, the industry achieved better results from doing so.

Moreover, the statement issued by PALSP stated that DST is vital for the industry as it will give stimulants to the economy and will also help in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-hit areas. The news source mentioned that DST will help in promoting economic growth and create job opportunities. It was also revealed that this practice is exercised by several countries in order to save energy. The countries move their clocks one hour forward in spring and reverse the clock one hour back in fall. The statement mentioned that an extra hour of sunlight will be beneficial for industries including retail, construction, tourism, and agriculture.
