Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) to construct watchtowers and jetties at the Keenjhar Lake site within two months; in addition to completing the registration of boats within a month, a news source reported.

A two-judge bench of the high court, headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, was hearing a petition on drowning incidents reported at the Keenjhar Lake. It further ordered the district judge of Thatta to conduct an inspection of the lake and submit a report on its findings.
Moreover, it asked STDC Managing Director (MD) Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh and relevant officials to observe vigilance and ensure compliance with court orders; further directing the STDC chief to submit a progress report on December 15.

Earlier, the STDC chief had apprised the bench regarding the jetties planned for the Keenjhar Lake attraction. To this effect, the incumbent stated that the authorities concerned had constructed one jetty and intended on building the remaining three following the upcoming drop in the lake’s water level.
