Islamabad: The federal government has directed the Privatisation Commission to sell state land in a bid to help pay off the country’s debt; now reported to have exceeded PKR 27 trillion – a news source stated.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan took a decision to this effect on Thursday. He was chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad. The federal ministers concerned, along with their secretaries, also attended the session.
The ministries concerned were directed to compile a list of at least three land properties available to them. They were asked to ensure that the real estate in question was cleared of all encumbrances.

In a similar measure, an Asset Management Cell was formed to supervise the process of selling state land. This committee comprises five federal ministers; namely, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, Communication Minister Murad Saeed, Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari.
