Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has approved the conversion of several state-owned buildings into parks, museums, hotels and educational institutes, reported a new source. The approval was granted by Prime Minister Imran Khan while presiding over a meeting held with education minister, High Education Commission chairman, provincial secretaries for Housing, Education and National
Heritage Departments, Foreign Affairs secretaries, and other senior officials.
Khan reviewed the operational cost of managing and maintaining governor houses and other state buildings and the burden they have been on the national exchequer. Khan approved the conversion of Punjab Governor House will into a public park, and the conversion of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a park for women and a museum. Nathia Gali Governor House will be used as a boutique hotel. Regarding Quetta Governor House, the building may be converted into a public park as well.
It was also decided that state guesthouses in Lahore and Karachi be converted into five-star hotels. Chamba House in Lahore will also be used for generating income, while three committees were formed to convert Prime Minister House into an international university.
