Islamabad: Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haq revealed that SpaceX’s Starlink – a United States-based satellite internet service provider – has registered itself with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), according to news published on March 22.

As per the details revealed, SpaceX Director of Global Licensing and Market Activation Ryan Goodnight called on Minister Haq to discuss the registration of SpaceX’s Starlink in Pakistan. During the meeting, both parties discussed how Starlink’s fastest and cheapest satellite internet service could facilitate the availability of affordable broadband services across Pakistan. The development is being hailed as ‘significant’ for Pakistan’s Information Technology and Telecommunication sector.

Minister Haq highlighted that this latest internet service will decrease operational costs of telecom operators, especially in remote areas where inactive mobile towers will be activated at a lesser cost. He said that Starlink can play a pivotal role in the government’s objective to provide cheap internet all across Pakistan. In response, Ryan Goodnight lauded Pakistan’s progress in IT and telecommunication sector and assured that the company is ‘ready to go fast’.
