Karachi: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) recently announced that they will be operating in five different districts of the city, for the purpose of collecting garbage from designated points. This will be done twice-a-day and people merely need to put the garbage in trolleys situated at the corner of streets and service roads. The five districts include East, West, South, Malir and Keamari, according to a news source.

The Operations Executive Director of SSWMB stressed that the general public should be aware of the dangers of littering the roads and streets with garbage and they should play their part in the operation of this service by placing the garbage bags at the appropriate places.
The SSWMB has been tasked with revamping of dustbins, manual and mechanical sweeping of roads, washing, established of a Command-and-Control System to monitor the situation, as well as a mechanism for redressal of complaints.
In regards to the complaint redressal, the person in charge of the system Mr Ghulam Nabi Sheikh stated that the SSWMB has introduced three ways in order to deal with the complaints. Firstly, people can download the SSWMB application from Google Play and file a complaint through the application, along with a picture of the garbage site.

Furthermore, a text message to 0318-1030851 containing the name, mobile number and area is another way to register the complaint and the same will be forwarded to the concerned assistant director. Lastly, concerned persons can contact the landline number (021-99333702). Much like the texting system, upon verification of name and area, the complaint will be forwarded to the relevant officials.
