Islamabad: The Sui Northern Gas Company (SSGC) has notified its receipt of funds worth PKR 666.693 million over the last five years; meant to facilitate the provision of gas to the residents of 40 villages and other localities in Balochistan — with the funds having been extended under the government’s Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme, a news source reported.

The village gasification project was estimated to cost PKR 763.659 million. The federal government’s share in the total costs was 623.065 million and that of SSGC was PKR 140.594 million. The gas company has utilised PKR 241.627 million so far to lay the pipeline network, out of the total PKR 662.693 million funds. SSGC has provided gas in eight villages till now and plans to complete the gasification work in the remaining 32 villages and localities by June.

The SSGC has also begun developing new gas fields to meet the growing demand for gas supply. The company recently laid a 48-kilometre long pipeline and began adding 15 million cubic feet per day gas from the Rehman Gas Field. An additional 20 million cubic feet per day gas is also expected to be injected into the system from the same field soon.
