Islamabad: Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) is considering a proposal to introduce fixed gas tariff each month for domestic consumers to streamline its transmission issues, according to a news report. The decision was taken after SSGC suffered huge line losses in the province.
The company’s line losses/UFG (Unaccounted for Gas) stood at 49.39% in Balochistan, 13.88% in Karachi and 13.80% in interior Sindh during the year 2017-18. The package for fixed monthly billing will be placed before the government for consideration. Each consumer will have to pay PKR 2,000 per month during the peak winter season.
The main causes of UFG have been attributed to gas theft, meter tampering, unauthorised extension of load, old gas lines, under-capacity transmission lines, and measurement errors. SSGC also plans to establish Control Gas Theft Operation Departments for the purpose. An independent police station at Karachi and special courts in Sindh and Balochistan are also in the works.
