Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Commissioner (KMC) Dr Saifur Rehman has directed the KMC Technical Services director general to increase the pace of rehabilitation work in Karachi Zoo, reported a news source. He also said that the corporation is in touch with the International Zoo Association to arrange for animals for the city zoo.

Currently, KMC is busy carpeting internal and external roads of the zoo. Sharing details on KMC’s plan to restore the facility, Rehman said that the zoo administration is installing boards and maps to guide public. He also mentioned that the 40-acre facility is home to trees as old as 150 years. These trees were planted during the English reign. Roots of many of these trees are still expanding, giving birth to new offshoots.

He also mentioned that Karachi Zoo is home to over 850 species of animals. These include 134 mammals, 244 reptiles, 475 species of birds and 200 kinds of fishes.
