Islamabad: Special courts will be established in Islamabad to address property disputes involving overseas Pakistanis under the Overseas Property Act 2024. The initiative aims to expedite the resolution of cases and provide legal protection to overseas Pakistanis facing property-related issues.
According to news sources, the acting Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court has directed the formation of these courts, granting the authority to appoint judges to session judges. The Registrar of the Islamabad High Court has sent a letter to the Secretary of Law and Justice, stating that the session judges for East and West Overseas Special Courts will be nominated based on pending cases and judicial experience.

The letter also mentions that the Ministry of Law will issue the necessary notifications for these courts. Additionally, a special bench has been set up in the Islamabad High Court to hear appeals related to overseas Pakistanis’ property cases. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro has been assigned to preside over these appeals.
The decision follows the approval of a bill in October by the Senate, mandating that these special courts settle property disputes involving overseas Pakistanis within 90 days. The move is expected to provide much-needed legal relief to expatriates, ensuring their property rights are protected and disputes are resolved swiftly.
