Quetta: The special committee of the Balochistan Assembly on Saindak project on Monday held its first meeting in which it asked the departments concerned to submit reports on the royalty paid so far to the provincial government by the Chinese company.

The committee was formed two years ago by Speaker Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo when Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sanaullah Baloch moved a resolution in the Balochistan Assembly. The said resolution demanded the project to be handed over to the Balochistan government ‘as after the passage of the 18th Constitution Amendment by the parliament it had become a provincial subject’.

Meanwhile, a Chinese firm has been overseeing the said project in the Chagai district since 2002. Committee Chairman Sanauallah Baloch spoke to the attendees and revealed that a petition had been registered at the Balochistan High Court on the Saindak project issue.
