Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan recently announced his decision to formally operationalize the South Punjab Secretariat on October 15 — according to a news report published on September 5. He further expressed his hope that this move would help usher in a new era of prosperity in the region.

The PM made the decision during a meeting on the establishment and operationalization of the secretariat. He took the opportunity to also praise the efforts made by Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and the Punjab government in this regard.
PM Khan added that separating the financial allocations for South Punjab would bring about progress and prosperity in the region. He also advised the authorities concerned to ensure that the devolution of power and administrative processes was performed in an efficient manner. He further asked to be regularly updated on the workings of the South Punjab secretariat.

During the meeting, a proposal was also presented to introduce budget allocation for the South Punjab area under the Public Sector Development Programme in next year’s budget.
