Islamabad: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday stated that the government would soon present a bill for the creation of the South Punjab province in the National Assembly (NA), according to news sources.

He made this announcement during a high-level meeting. He said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had endorsed this decision; adding that the region (which will be included in the South Punjab province) had been long deprived of its fair share of resources.
Furthermore, Qureshi said that PM Khan would appraise all members of the parliament about his decision to table the bill in the upcoming parliamentary meeting; scheduled for Thursday. He said that efforts were being made to uplift the living standards of the people in the province’s southern region.

He revealed that the government had finalised its decision with regard to the establishment of a secretariat in the region; further stating that funds worth PKR 3.5 billion would be required for the said purpose.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar had recently announced that 35% of the province’s resource allocation would be dedicated to South Punjab; keeping in view the region’s population.
