Peshawar: A primary school in Kohat was converted to run on solar energy, a news source reported. Authorities concerned provided the school with solar energy infrastructure as part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s foreign funded project. Government Primary School Bazeed Khel, Kohat was formally inaugurated as the first solarised school under the Solar Southern Schools Project.

As per sources, the schools in KP’s underdeveloped southern districts will be converted to solar energy in order to facilitate the students, teachers, and other staff.
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has partnered with KP Education Department to implement this project.

During the inaugural ceremony, Advisor to CM KP on Education Ziaullah Khan Bangash said that the Solar Schools Project will supply renewable and free electricity to over 1,250 primary and middle schools across the southern districts. He said that these include Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Lakki Marwat.
