Islamabad: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has launched software to conduct the first ever Digital Population and Housing Census, according to news published in the leading newspaper on July 27.

Secretary Planning Syed Zafar Ali Shah inaugurated the software for the 7th Population and Housing Census 2022. The secretary was briefed about the Price Information Management System (PIMS) and Data Dissemination Dashboards. During the meeting, the secretary was informed about the listing and enumeration applications for the census.
Moreover, Chief Statistician Dr Naeemuz Zafar stated that the data collection exercise for the pilot census has been initiated by the PBS field staff for testing the tools, mechanism, and field operation. With the help of this, the PBS will be able to check and rectify all the problems related to the software and field execution plan. Additionally, it was mentioned that all the stakeholders must be a part of the census process for wider acceptability of results. The census monitoring committee was formed to monitor all the activities of the population. The committee comprises provincial functionaries, demographers, and researchers.

Reportedly, Member National Accounts Syed Ejaz Ali Shah gave an overview of the system of National Accounts, Macro Economic Statistics, Prices, a compilation of National Accounts, and much more. The meeting also discussed the National Price Monitoring Committee, its functions and composition. Secretary Planning, Development & Special Initiatives (PD&SI) stated that the Population Census and National Accounts are necessary for planning and policy-making. He directed the officials concerned to strictly follow the timelines so the next general elections can be conducted based on the census.
